Safwan A and Aashrithaa won four and three titles each in the age category events on the second day of the Tamil Nadu State Level Championship Pickleball in Chennai on Sunday.

Safwan A emerged as the standout player on Day 2 of the Tamil Nadu State Level Championship Pickleball, an IPA-sanctioned PWR 100 event, at the Picklers Arena in Chennai. Safwan won four titles — the Men’s Singles crowns in the U18 and U16 categories, along with the U18 Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles titles with R Harish and Ritanyaasri SK, respectively.

Aashrithaa, meanwhile, won four titles, emerging as the best-performing woman of the day. She clinched the Women’s Singles Under-12 category title with an 11-6 win over Kriya Sathiyamoorthy. In the Women’s Doubles U12 category, she won the gold medal alongside Ritanyaasri.

Aashrithaa went on to add another feather to her cap by partnering with Maanasi Karthik to win the Women’s Doubles U16 category gold medal. She eventually won the U14 mixed doubles title with R Harish.

Suhaan Golecha also bagged two titles – the U12 Men’s Singles crown as well as the Men’s Doubles title in partnership with Daivik Sriram.

Harish also claimed four titles. He defeated Viransh Chopra to win the Men’s Singles Under-14 category final and later teamed up with Safwan to win the U18 Men’s Doubles title. Harish also won the men’s doubles U14 final in partnership with Viransh and followed up with the mixed doubles U14 title with Aashrithaa.

Earlier, on Day 1, the Tamil Nadu State Level Pickleball Championship witnessed intense action and high-quality performances as the state’s best talents battled for supremacy in the Open Advance category at the Picklers arena in Chennai. The finals brought out both individual brilliance and strong partnerships, setting the tone for the rest of the championship.

In the Men’s Singles Open Advance final, Abhishek Prasad delivered a dominant display to defeat Rahul Ram 15-5. His superior shot selection and court control ensured he stayed ahead throughout the match.

The Women’s Singles Open Advance final saw Chandni Murali put in a commanding performance, brushing aside Pavithra R 11-3. Chandni’s quick movement and consistency proved too much for her opponent.

Doubles action electrified the crowd, with Dinesh and Sarvesh combining effectively to overcome Praveenkumar Archunan and Shravan Karumanchi 15-11 in the Men’s Doubles Open Advance final. Their communication and aggressive play sealed the contest.

In the Women’s Doubles Open Advance final, Swetha and Nikita emerged victorious, defeating the pairing of Anika Jalan and Shilpa Ranjit 15-9. Their steady teamwork and control at the net proved decisive.

Day 1 showcased the growing depth of pickleball talent in Tamil Nadu, featuring dominant wins alongside closely fought battles, ensuring fans had plenty to cheer about.

Maanasi Karthik, meanwhile, clinched the U14 and U16 women’s singles gold as she won all of her matches in the two age categories. She maintained her momentum in doubles, winning gold in the U16 women’s doubles in partnership with Aashrithaa. However, in the U14 mixed doubles, she and Viransh Chopra went down to R Harish and Aashrithaa.

The event, happening over two weekends – 6th and 7th September, and 13th and 14th September – is a marquee fixture in IPA’s calendar, marking a significant step in pickleball’s rise in southern India.
